A German-born engraver who created the Capped Bust design family while serving under Robert Scot.

生平

Reich arrived in the United States with European engraving experience and joined the Mint after years of private work. His assistant engravership produced a coordinated redesign of gold and silver denominations before he resigned in 1817.

风格与影响

Reich's broad Liberty bust, soft cap, compact lettering, and naturalistic eagle created a more sculptural and unified appearance than much earlier federal coinage. The Capped Bust language remained in use and adaptation for decades. His work also illustrates how an assistant could shape national coinage without holding the Chief Engraver title.
