The second Chief Engraver, known for adapting inherited designs to new diameters and mechanized production.
生平
Kneass worked in commercial and banknote engraving before his appointment in 1824. A stroke later limited his work, and Christian Gobrecht increasingly handled engraving duties before succeeding him.
风格与影响
His contribution often lies in careful modification: resizing portraits, refining lettering, and adapting Capped Bust forms to close-collar technology and revised denominations. Kneass's career shows that Mint design history includes technical translation as well as new iconography. He bridged the hand-worked early Mint and Gobrecht's steam-powered era.
