History & legend

John ‘Calico Jack’ Rackham and Anne Bonny and Kingston

John Rackham and Anne Bonny sailed together in the Caribbean before their crew was captured in 1720. Rackham was executed; Bonny's later fate is not securely documented. The coin associates the pair with the merchant ship Kingston captured by Rackham's crew. Much popular writing about Bonny depends on later narrative sources whose accuracy is debated. The page separates the documented 1720 capture from romanticized retellings.
