A Beaux-Arts sculptor responsible for the Winged Liberty dime and Walking Liberty half dollar, both later revived on collector and bullion coinage.
生平
Weinman emigrated from Germany, trained in New York, and worked with prominent architectural sculptors including Saint-Gaudens. The 1916 competitions brought two of his designs into circulation at the same time.
风格与影响
His coinage combines rhythmic drapery, idealized Liberty figures, carefully integrated lettering, and symbolic reverses suited to shallow relief. The dime is popularly called Mercury despite depicting Liberty. The Walking Liberty obverse later became the American Silver Eagle obverse, and both 1916 designs received centennial gold adaptations.
