The artist whose Independence Hall reverse was selected for the Bicentennial Kennedy half dollar.

Biography

Huntington developed a career in art and sculpture before entering the national competition. His architectural reverse was chosen to replace the regular heraldic eagle temporarily for the Bicentennial.

Style and legacy

The design uses a direct frontal view of Independence Hall, a compact legend, and a crescent of stars to organize a complex building at coin scale. The half dollar records a rare temporary replacement of a modern circulating reverse through open competition, paired with Gilroy Roberts's existing obverse.
