Six jurisdictions enter the quarter map
Congress extended the rotating-quarter idea for one year to include the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and the Northern Mariana Islands.
The result is a self-contained six-design set bridging the 50 State program and America the Beautiful.
Obverse, reverse, and the details that identify the type
Confirm the major design, date, and mint mark before studying smaller die differences.
The main portrait and date
The modified Washington obverse from the State Quarters era continues unchanged through all six designs.

Each jurisdiction uses a local historical, cultural, or geographic subject with its name and the year 2009.
