Lynx canadensis
The second release converts the field into a diagonal leap led by two outstretched forepaws.
THE ISSUE
The Lynx replaces the Cougar’s grounded advance with an airborne instant. Its body bridges the rim and centre, making distance itself part of the design.
REVERSE DESIGN
The forepaws project toward the lower field while the back and raised tail complete a taut diagonal. A direct gaze keeps the face legible inside the movement.
DESIGN & ENGRAVING
Contemporary launch coverage attributes the reverse to Emily Damstra; Susanna Blunt’s portrait remains on the obverse.
OBVERSE
Susanna Blunt’s portrait of Queen Elizabeth II faces right. ELIZABETH II and D·G·REGINA encircle the portrait, with the five-dollar denomination and year below.
SPECIES CONTEXT
Lynx canadensis is adapted to northern forests and snow. The short tail, broad paws and facial ruff are compressed into the leaping silhouette.
