The third coin abandons the side view and sends a running wolf directly toward the centre.
THE ISSUE
Wolf turns the encounter head-on. The lowered skull, fixed eyes and forward shoulders make the pursuit feel close, while the outer body dissolves into the radial field.
REVERSE DESIGN
The face occupies the vertical axis, framed by the forelegs below and a rising back above. The composition relies on foreshortening rather than the long profiles of the first two coins.

Emily Damstra is credited with the design; specialist catalogue records distinguish Nathalie Lagacé’s engraving credit. Susanna Blunt designed the obverse portrait.
OBVERSE
Susanna Blunt’s portrait of Queen Elizabeth II faces right. ELIZABETH II and D·G·REGINA encircle the portrait, with the five-dollar denomination and year below.
SPECIES CONTEXT
Canis lupus is both a social hunter and a wide-ranging traveller. The reverse selects the low-headed run rather than pack behaviour as its identifying moment.
