The Ring of Days

The reverse is built around the numeral 2, a peso sign, the mint mark and the date. Its ornament comes from the Anillo de los Días, the Ring of Days on the Sun Stone.

A steel outer ring surrounds a golden-coloured centre. The numeral 2 and the Sun Stone’s Ring of Days connect the familiar bimetallic form to a much older design source.

The original 2-peso specification gives a 23 mm round coin with a plain edge and a nominal mass of 5.19 g. A stainless-steel outer ring surrounds an aluminium-bronze centre.

The reverse is built around the numeral 2, a peso sign, the mint mark and the date. Its ornament comes from the Anillo de los Días, the Ring of Days on the Sun Stone. The original legal description and Banco de México’s Spanish specification establish that name. It distinguishes this coin from one peso, whose selected motif is the Ring of Splendour.

Family B entered the modern monetary system in January 1993 with the N$ notation. Family C followed in January 1996 using the peso sign without N. The change of inscription did not create a new unit of value. Both belong to the modern peso lineage and share the principal Sun Stone selection, while the notation helps distinguish their monetary presentation.
Source: Banco de México ↗The original 2-peso specification gives a 23 mm round coin with a plain edge and a nominal mass of 5.19 g. A stainless-steel outer ring surrounds an aluminium-bronze centre. This is a physical assembly of two metal components, not merely a two-colour printed design. The 2019 photograph illustrates the earlier core era; its tone is not used as proof of the alloy.
Source: Banco de México ↗Banco de México confirms circulation of coins with a bronze-coated-steel centre from December 2025. The outer ring remains stainless steel. That is a material-era transition within this denomination, not a reason to invent another reverse design. The published headline mass of 5.19 g is retained here for the original specification; a separately verified total mass for the selected new-core coin is not supplied.
Source: Banco de México ↗The B-family design appears among other valid coins, and the C-family denomination remains in the issuer’s current catalogue. The appearance of a new core is not evidence that every older example has been demonetized or that older-core manufacture ended on a single known date. Official status, metal selection and actual availability are different questions and are kept separate in the register.
Source: Banco de México ↗A specimen’s numeral establishes the denomination; its N$ or $ notation helps locate the family era. The national arms occupy the opposite face. Surface colour varies with photography and the condition of a coin, so it cannot by itself separate original aluminium bronze from a bronze-coated-steel core. Nor does the M° mint mark identify a particular mint facility without further evidence.
Source: Banco de México ↗The 1-, 2- and 5-peso coins share the steel-ring, warmer-centre arrangement and the confirmed December 2025 core transition. Their Sun Stone motifs and original dimensions remain distinct. One peso uses the Ring of Splendour, two pesos the Ring of Days, and five pesos the Ring of Serpents. Reading them together connects a shared material history with three different selections from the monument.

Photographs retain their original coin detail and finish. Exterior background masks are for layout only. The opening detail is an enlarged crop; complete faces appear above and in the design section. Images are enlarged, not actual size; paired faces are design references, not a same-specimen claim.
